New York City is home of all the major leagues which is why sports play such a huge role in life here. The teams have become famous because of their rivalry which does not have an equal in the entire NFL membership since they both belong to the same city.
Basketball
Basketball has both professional as well as recreational importance in New York City and there are many sports facilities which cater to both types of basketball enthusiasts. It has massive social and historical importance in the area which is why the Madison Square Garden is the holy place of the sport.
New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets are the two main professional teams with many minor league teams as well which compete in inter-city competitions.
Soccer
New York has four main teams which form the soccer circuit in the city. The four teams are:-

- New York Cosmos
- Sky Blue FC
The Sky Blue FC is a women’s team and the New York City FC forms part of the major league. They all have varying home grounds for playing the sport and fans flock to each. The New York City FC and the Red Bulls have a prevailing rivalry which adds spice to their matches.
